Simulation in Nursing Education: A Literature Review Teachers are champions of learning. They work endlessly to push students to succeed and grow. They teach them to be better readers, writers, mathematicians, scientist, historians and artists. Teachers are constantly evaluating what they can do to help their students learn and to achieve personal goals, life goals, and become productive members of society. However, not all learners have the same learning style and not all teachers have the same teaching methods. Learning styles are the result of a learners preferred ways of learning and taking into consideration the learning environment (Lisko O’Dell, 2010). It is important for students to know and understand their own learning†¦show more content†¦As stated in the article by Lisko O’Dell (2010), Kolb maintained that not all learners and learning styles are fixed, and therefore, grouping people into a specific learning style should be avoided. Kolb’s experiential learning model creates a learning style that emphasizes not only the importance of reflecting on one’s experiences, but also learning from those experiences (Vinales, 2015). According to Kolb’s theory, experiential learning is dependent not only on the inclusion of all elements of learning but also on the learner’s awareness of these elements. Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle The four stages of the experiential learning cycle are concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active implementation. Concrete experience is where learners immerse themselves in new experiences. Reflective observation is the process where learners will observe practices and skills from roles models that the learner will then make sense of the observation. Abstract conceptualization is the process where the learner creates ideas and integrate them into logical theory. The last stage is active implementation which is the process where the learner is able to implement what is learned (Lisko O’Dell, 2010). Nursing students learn more through experience.
